Making Process

Preparing your Minecraft Steve ‘Skin’

Start with a high-resolution Minecraft Steve template. Scale the template based on the person who’ll be wearing the costume, ensuring that the proportions stay true to the character. The shoulders-to-floor measurement is crucial as Steve’s shoulders will match this height.

Constructing the Body

Create the body using the rectangular box shape crafted from three separate cardboard pieces. Assemble them using liquid nails and screws. Create appropriate holes for the head and arms in the body structure. For clean folds, score the cardboard before bending.

Crafting the Head

Construct a cube, which serves as Steve’s head. Be sure to include a square hole for the wearer’s head. Secure the structure with liquid nails and screws.

Tailoring the Arms

The arms, like the head, are made of cardboard boxes capped on one end. Provide a round hole at the “hand” end for holding Minecraft tools.

Applying the ‘Skin’

Enlarge your prepared ‘skin’ in Photoshop and print the design. After sealing all cardboard seams with tape, use the 3M spray adhesive to attach this design to your cardboard costume. Then apply scotch tape to ensure the edges do not peel off.

Final Touches

Secure the head with velcro to prevent it from falling off during movement, and create an eye-hole for vision. Add a U-shaped styrofoam piece for a handgrip in the arm costume and foam to the inside top of the body costume for comfort. You could use your Minecraft Steve costume alone or add accessories like a Minecraft pickaxe and explore even more creative possibilities.
