Materials:

  • Wooden pallets
  • Glue
  • Joining wood
  • Screws
  • Wheels (2 Euro each)
  • Bases for the wheels (7 Euro for the set)
  • Paint (0.5L for 8 Euros)
  • Primer
  • Woodworm Killer
  • Silicon Bases

Tools:

  • Electric/Normal saw
  • Electric drill

Some of these materials and tools were already part of my collection from previous woodworking projects, except the wheels and the pieces of wood used as bases for the wheels. The paint was also a fresh purchase for this project.

Making Process

Gathering the Essentials

Prepare by collecting all the required materials and tools, ensuring everything is at hand before starting. Given the nature of such projects, it’s crucial to have everything within reach to maintain a smooth workflow.

How to Start

  1. Dismantling the Pallets: Begin by carefully disassembling the wooden pallets, a task that demands patience to avoid damaging the useful parts
  2. Creating the Table Surface: I fused pallet pieces to achieve the required thickness, clamped them together, and then left them to dry thoroughly before cutting them to the required size.
  3. Dimension Decisions: I determined the table’s dimensions according to the lengths of the pallets, and I joined smaller pieces of wood where necessary to extend them to the desired length and width.

Sanding/Woodworm/Sanding

The assembly’s pieces will sand for a smooth texture. Following the woodworm killer application for extra protection, a final sanding ensured an even smoother finish.

Primer Application and More Sanding

After applying a layer of primer and allowing it to dry, another round of sanding was performed to ensure that the surfaces were smooth and ready for the next step.

Painting

With the primed wood surfaces now smooth, it was time to apply the chosen paint colour, bringing the coffee table closer to its final look.

Assembling

Assembly began from the table’s bottom to keep screw heads hidden and maintain a clean top surface look. Glue will use in the phase to enhance the stability of the structure.

The Base With the Wheels

Bases will attach to the table bottom, by securing the wheels to these bases, adding mobility to the coffee table.

Assembly Continues With the Wooden Blocks

Joining woods was utilized to attach the wooden blocks without visible screws from the top, maintaining a neat finish. Holes were drilled, glue applied, and the pieces were clamped together for about 24 hours.

Final Touches

Final adjustments included touch-up painting on necessary areas, drilling the top for silicon bases, and placing the table in its designated spot. The culmination of the project was celebrated by taking numerous photos to capture the achievement.

Conclusion

Each step in making this wooden pallet coffee table on wheels is infused with creativity and personal expression. From dismantling wooden pallets to the final touches, every phase embodies the spirit of DIY. This project not only furnishes your living room with a bespoke piece of furniture but also imbues it with a story — your story of craftsmanship and imagination. So, grab your tools, and let’s turn those wooden pallets into a masterpiece that echoes the essence of rustic elegance and utility.
