Making Process
Preparing the Board and Making Cuts
The journey begins with the lumber you already have, inspecting it for cleanliness and suitability for the project. If the board seems a bit worse for wear, fear not; a combination of Krud Kutter and a diluted bleach solution can rejuvenate it beautifully. Once clean, measure and cut your lumber according to the space you have designated for the stand and the size of bowls you’re using. Our project required one top piece of 28 inches and two legs measuring 13 inches each.
Crafting the Bowl Recesses
Next, decide on the positioning of the bowls on the top piece of the stand. Trace the outer rim of the bowls, then mark a slightly smaller diameter (by about 1/4 inch) for the actual cutting line. A handy computer-generated circle pattern can assist in this step. Drill a starting hole for each marked area then employ a jigsaw to cut out the bowl recesses, using canned air to keep your cutting line visible and free from debris.
Incorporating Iron Pipe for Decoration
Before assembling the pieces, decide on the placement of a decorative iron pipe. Drill the appropriate holes for where the pipe will be inserted. This step adds a distinctive aesthetic touch to the stand.
Staining for Protection and Aesthetics
With all pieces cut and prepared, it’s time to stain the stand. We used Olympic Elite Solid Advanced Exterior Stain and Sealant in One for its durable and aesthetically pleasing finish, perfect for a project that sees daily use.
Assembling the Stand
Finally, it’s time to bring everything together. Glue and screw the legs to the top, strategically placing the screws in positions that will be covered by the decorative hinges. Attach the pipe and secure it with pipe caps for a clean finish.
Position the stand in its designated spot, insert the bowls, and call over your eager pets for the unveiling of their new dining station.
This DIY Dog Bowl Stand is more than a piece of pet furniture; it’s a statement of love and care towards your pets. It’s an invitation to merge functionality with style in your home, creating a dedicated space for your pets that compliments your living area. Plus, it’s an enjoyable undertaking that yields practical and visually appealing results.
