Step-by-Step Instructions

1. Mix and Shape the Base

  • Create the Dough Color:
    Mix together:

    • 1 bar of white polymer clay
    • 1 small square of cognac clay
    • 1 small square of yellow clay
(The colored squares should be the same size.)

    • Shape it with your fingers into a plump, standing roll (like a cinnamon bun).
    • Stand it upright.
    • Use your flat tool or tile to gently flatten the top/bottom slightly while keeping the “rolled” look.

2. Make & Attach Mickey’s Face

  • Prepare Face Clay:
    • Flatten a small ball of flesh/light clay with a rolling pin or dotting tool, adjusting for size.
    • Place it against the base to check the proportion (not too big or small).
    • Cut away excess clay.
  • Shape & Attach the Face:
    • Using a flat or slightly rounded dotting tool, lightly sketch/dent Mickey’s face details into the clay.
    • Cut the face shape out with a scalpel or craft knife.
    • Place the face onto the front top of the cinnamon roll.
    • Smooth the edges and blend into the base using a silicone brush and wipes to remove any visible seams.

3. Add Facial Features

  • Eyes & Nose:
    • Roll tiny balls from chocolate clay:
      • 1 larger for the nose; place in the center of the face first.
      • 1 oval for the eye; flatten and place.
      • 1 smaller, elongated shape for the winking eye (roll, place, and shape with a tool or brush).
    • Use the silicone brush to round and tidy the eyes (remember, smaller looks better).
  • Mouth & Tongue:
    • Shape a thin piece of chocolate clay, flatten and curve to make a smile.
    • Attach with your dotting tool or fingers and blend the edges into the face.
    • Optional: Enlarge the smile’s interior with a dotting tool.
    • Add a tiny ball of light/flesh clay for the tongue inside the mouth, blend gently.

4. Make the Arms

  • Arms:
    • Take more “dough” color clay and roll a thick-but-short sausage.
    • Cut in half, then cut each end on a slant (for better placement).
    • Attach arms to the sides: one up, one down, or both up/down as you prefer.
    • Use a small dab of liquid polymer clay for better hold (do not use too much; it will be slippery!).
    • Gently press and blend at the join.
  • Optional Cheeks:
    • (Optional) Using pink dry pastel and a small brush, dust little circles on the face for cute cheeks.
  • Bake the body/head/arms for 10 minutes at 130°C to harden for the next step.

5. Add White Icing “Glaze” Effect

  • On the Head:
    • Roll out white clay very thin.
    • Check that your white “glaze” circle is the right size to fit the top of the head; trim excess.
    • Clean with a wipe.
    • Use a dotting tool, silicone brush, and/or your fingers to create “drip” and wavy effects for the icing.
    • Attach to the top of the cinnamon roll, using a dab of liquid clay if needed. Smooth the edges to look natural.
  • On the Hands:
    • Roll two tiny white balls.
    • Flatten them into thin “pancakes.”
    • Place, shape wavy edges, and attach to the ends of the arms with a touch of liquid clay.
    • Blend for neatness.

6. Make and Attach the Hat (Donut)

  • Make the Donut:
    • Form a small ball with your dough mix color, flatten slightly.
    • Use a dotting tool to poke a hole through the center, widening with larger tools until it looks like a donut.
    • Test fit on Mickey’s head—adjust as needed.
  • Add Donut Glaze:
    • Roll a white clay sausage (slightly thick).
    • Lay it around the top of the donut, flatten gently and shape with your silicone brush for more wavy, drippy icing (it’s okay to do it in pieces).
    • Add a tiny ball of dough color for the donut’s center filling, and top with a small spot of white to mimic more glaze. Shape as needed.
  • Place the finished donut on Mickey’s head (use a dab of liquid clay to secure).

7. Make and Attach Mickey’s Cinnamon Roll Ears

  • Cinnamon Roll Canes:
    • Roll a small ball of chocolate clay, flatten it into a disc.
    • Roll a thin sausage of dough color clay; lay it in a spiral on the disc. Trim excess at each step.
    • Add a chocolate spiral and finish with another dough color spiral (alternating the walls of the roll).

    • Close up the “cane” into a thick sausage.
    • Roll and compress gently to finish shaping the roll with your fingers, round off the ends.
    • Slice the ends to reveal the swirl (like a cinnamon roll).
    • (Optional) Add a small sausage of white clay as “icing,” flatten, and attach to the top.
  • Bake Ears:
    • Bake both ears separately for 10 minutes at 130°C.
  • Attach Ears:
    • When cool, carve out small holes in the head with a blade or tool, just large enough for the ear’s thickness (should match the width of your silicone brush).
    • Use a small dab of liquid clay, then press and secure the ears in place.

8. Final Bake and Finish

  • Bake the whole figure for 30 minutes at 110°C (lower temperature for the full piece).
  • Let cool completely.
  • Varnish:
    • Smooth on your favorite clay-safe varnish for shine and durability.

Tips for Success

  • Always use as little liquid polymer clay as needed to avoid slippery pieces.
  • Smaller details are cuter and look more “Munchling.”
  • Blend seams for a polished, professional look.
  • Use wipes and silicone tools to keep everything neat.
  • Pastel cheeks are optional but add great character.
  • Take your time with the ears and hat/donut for the best effect.
