Are you interested in building a fun toy for your kids? This guide will show you how to build a merry-go-round, also known as a roundabout, all by yourself. It’s hard to find a good quality merry-go-round to buy, and they can be quite expensive. That’s why we’ve gathered some common home materials and recycled items to make our own. This project is all about creating a spinning amusement ride that your children will love, and it’s easier than you might think!
Building A Merry Go Round
Materials Needed:
- An axle
- A circular piece of wood
- Screws and more screws
- Paint for a lively finish
Tools Used:
- Saw
- Sandpaper or a sanding machine
Making Process
Preparing the Base: The dining table, originally circular with expandable leaves, served as the foundational structure. Incorporating the extra leaves balanced the base. Following the adjustment, the old table top was securely fastened onto the newly leveled base.
Enhancing Stability: To prepare for painting, the entire top surface is smoothed out using sandpaper or a sanding machine. Around the perimeter, a step/base is constructed to ensure easy access and additional support. This required a bit more timber, slightly increasing the budget, but well worth the investment for stability.
Mounting and Anchoring: In total, 28 legs (7 x 4) are crafted alongside 5 anchor points to ensure the roundabout remains firmly in place. Affordable children’s chairs (costing roughly £2.50 each) were then mounted on top to provide seating arrangements for the merry-go-round’s riders.
Painting and Final Touches: A vibrant layer of paint is applied to bring the entire structure to life. A thorough final inspection ensured the roundabout was safe and ready for enjoyment.
