Crafting Your Paracord Snake
Preparing the Cord:
Combine two 6-foot lengths of paracord in colors of your choice by melting their ends and pressing them together. This connection will later be removed, so the immediate appearance is not critical.
Sculpting the Head
Start Forming:
Employ a jig modified with zip ties at the ends to support the cords as you weave.
Weaving the Hood: By looping and threading the cords as detailed, create a 3½ inch section for the snake’s head, tightening the weave a centimeter above the zip tie.
Pattern Repetition: Continue the pattern until you’ve achieved the desired head shape, wider in the middle and tapering down.
Finishing Touches: Remove the zip ties and trim the initial melted connection, leaving a small portion intact.
Detailing the Head
Crafting the Upper Jaw
Red Paracord: Use a 4-foot length, folding and weaving it through the head to form the upper jaw, employing a cobra braid for attachment.
Knotting: Continue with the cobra knot until the jaw reaches the desired length, then trim and melt the ends for a seamless finish.
Lower Jaw and Fangs.
Continuation: With matching paracord, mirror the process for the lower jaw, finishing with cutting, melting, and then coloring the ends for realistic detail.
Fangs: Cut toothpicks into thirds and insert them into the head to mimic fangs.
The Tongue’s Articulation
Craft the tongue from a small piece of pink paracord, pressed flat after melting for an authentic appearance. Optionally, create a forked effect for added realism.
Constructing the Body
Internal Structure: Gut a long piece of paracord and thread a straightened wire coat hanger inside. Secure by melting the ends onto the wire.
Weaving the Body: Using an additional paracord, thread through to start the body, proceeding with a series of cobra braids/knots until the wire ends, extending a bit further before trimming and sealing the cord’s ends.
