Baymax Marshmallow Munchling Polymer Clay Pattern

Essential Materials & Tools

Materials

  • Polymer clay:
    • White (main color for Baymax)
    • Chocolate brown (details, coulis)
    • “Cake batter” color → mix 1 square ochre, 1 square yellow, 1 bar white (for biscuit sandwich and details)
  • Liquid polymer clay (for strong adhesion)
  • Soft pastels (optional for biscuit coloring)
  • Varnish (for finish)

Tools

  • Rolling pin or pasta machine (for flattening clay)
  • Scalpel or craft knife (for cutting clay)
  • Dotting tools (various sizes, for sculpting and marking)
  • Silicone brush (for smoothing, blending, and shaping)
  • Toothbrush (for texturing biscuits)
  • Cookie cutter, square (or cut with knife)
  • Baking tray or ceramic tile (for baking)
  • Oven (for baking)
  • Paintbrush (to apply pastel, optional)

Step-by-Step Instructions

1. Prepare Your Cake Batter Clay (For Biscuits)

Mix together:

  • 1 square ochre clay
  • 1 square yellow clay
  • 1 bar white clay

Knead and blend until the color is uniform (a pale yellow cake color).

2. Shape Baymax’s Body

  • Roll a large ball of white clay for the body—the marshmallow center.

  • Roll two smaller balls for arms. Shape them into short, fat sausages. Slim them by rolling under a tool for a tapered look. Cut in half for two arms.
  • Roll two even smaller balls for legs, shape like the arms but a little larger. Taper and flatten the foot side so they sit flat, then cut in half for two legs.
  • Attach arms and legs securely to the white ball body, using a bit of liquid polymer clay if needed (especially after pre-baking).

3. Make Baymax’s Face

  • Using a dotting tool, lightly mark where the eyes will go.
  • Roll two tiny ovals of chocolate brown clay for the eyes. Place and flatten gently to stick.
  • Roll a thin sausage from chocolate clay and lay it between the eyes for Baymax’s connecting “visor” line.
  • Use tools and silicone brush to make sure the shapes are neat and smooth.

4. Sculpt the Chest Circle

  • With a medium dotting tool, make a shallow dent (off center, like Baymax’s access panel/button).
  • Roll a very thin sausage of chocolate brown. Wrap this around the dented circle, press gently.
  • Add a thin chocolate “crescent” inside the circle (looks like a little moon), for detail.

5. Create Elbow Details

  • Roll thin chocolate sausages and make a small oval or dot to place at each elbow (where arms join the body).

  • Use a silicone brush or dotting tool to lightly press and blend these on.

6. Bake the Figure – First Bake

  • Bake Baymax (body, arms, legs attached, details added) for 10 minutes at 110°C (230°F). Let cool.

7. Add Chocolate Coulis (Icing Drip) to Head

  • Roll a ball of chocolate clay.
  • Flatten and then, using a tool or blade, cut out irregular star or zigzag edges (to look like melted chocolate dripping).
  • Place on top of Baymax’s head, adjust drips for realism.
  • Use a silicone brush to smooth and round the drip edges for a natural look.

8. Make the Biscuit Sandwich

  • Flatten your cake batter clay with a rolling pin or pasta machine (thickness should look like a sandwich cookie).
  • Cut two squares (or circles if you prefer) – these are the biscuits.

  • (If cutters are too big, trim with your knife.)
  • Use a dotting tool or blade to make four small “domino” holes on each biscuit, then enlarge with tools for a deep baked look.
  • Texture both biscuits with a toothbrush for a realistic look.

(Optional) Add Biscuit Coloring:

  • Use soft pastels in ochre, chocolate, yellow, and a bit of orange.

  • Paint/dust edges and holes, starting with lighter colors, adding darker on the edges, for a “baked” effect.
  • Add some pastel to the underneath (underside) for realism.

9. Assemble the Sandwich

  • Place one cookie face down on your work surface.
  • Add a bit of liquid polymer clay to the center.
  • Position the cooled Baymax figure on top (centered).
  • Add a bit more liquid clay to Baymax’s head.
  • Place the second biscuit (face up) on top, lining up edges.

10. Final Bake

  • Bake the entire assembled piece for 30 minutes at 110°C (230°F).
  • Let cool completely.

11. Finishing Touches

  • Once cool, apply a thin layer of clay-safe varnish to the figure and biscuits for a glossy, finished look.

Tips for Beginners

  • Use only a small amount of liquid clay—too much will make your figure slippery.
  • If any seam or detail looks “off,” use your silicone brush and dotting tools to blend and fix.
  • Let parts cool completely between each step for best results.
  • Always pre-bake if in doubt before adding fragile or complicated details.
  • For biscuit coloring, use just a little pastel—build color slowly.
