Step-by-Step Instructions
1. Head
- Use white clay to make a round ball for the head.
- Shape lightly with your fingers to form two rounded cheeks. Use your index fingers to press in the sides and create eye markings.
- Make a soft indentation for the eye area.
2. Muzzle (Snout)
- Mix a little white and raspberry translucent clay for a very pale pink. Roll into a small ball.
- Cut the ball in half. Attach one half to the lower part of the face to form the muzzle.
- Use a sculpting accessory to round and blend the muzzle to look soft and seamless.
3. Eyes, Nostrils, and Mouth
- Roll two small black ovals for the eyes.
- Mark eye positions with a dotting tool, then place and gently press in the ovals.
- Use a flat dotting tool to make the nostrils and mouth line.
- If needed, make the mouth opening longer with an elongated accessory.
- Roll two tiny black balls for the nostrils and a small black bit for the mouth, blending slightly.
- Close the mouth a little with your fingers for a natural look.
4. Eyebrows
- Make a very thin sausage (rope) with blue translucent clay, create two small conical shapes.
- Cut in half and attach above the eyes as eyebrows.
5. Body & Limbs
- Roll a white ball (same size as head) for the body, keeping one end rounded.
- Lengthen the other end a bit into an oval shape for the sitting base.
- Make a long, thin sausage for the front legs. Cut in half at the midsection then on the diagonal (biais) at each end.
- Position and blend the front legs onto the body with a flat accessory.
- For hind legs: Make a white ball, cut in half, then shape each half into a cone or comma shape (rounded at one end, thinner at the other).
- Use your blade to trim down the wide side for better placement.
- Attach hind legs at each side of the base in a classic sitting unicorn pose. Adjust and blend as needed.
(Optional: Pin for Neck Support)
- Insert a small metal headpin into the neck area, leaving a bit protruding for attaching the head securely.
6. Ears
- Roll a tiny white sausage, flatten.
- Make a small piece of pale pink (from your earlier mix) for the inner ear.
- Shape and fit the pink clay inside the white ear.
- Position the finished ear on the head and repeat for the other ear.
7. Horn
- Roll a small cone of gold clay for the horn.
- Cut a short piece and attach it firmly in the middle of the forehead.
8. Santa Hat
- Use red clay to make a cone. Fit it onto a round-ended tool or your thumb to hollow, shaping it into a soft hat.
- Trim the base of the hat flat.
- Add a thin white sausage of clay all around the hat’s brim.
- Texture the white brim using a dotting tool—press all around for a fluffy effect.
- Add a small white ball at the tip for the pompom, also textured as above.
- Apply a bit of Fimo Liquid inside the hat base, then attach the hat at a cute angle (over the ear).
9. First Bake
- Bake the unicorn (minus mane/tail) for 10 minutes at 110°C (230°F).
Let cool before moving on.
10. Mane
- Roll thin sausages of blue translucent and raspberry translucent clay.
- Cut into small even pieces.
- Pair one blue and one pink piece together, placing as chunky strands on the unicorn’s head/neck.
- Repeat, alternating colors, until the mane area is filled.
- Blend and tuck the mane into the head gently with a flat tool.
11. Tail
- Roll two blue and two pink sausages.
- Twist them together for a colorful swirl.
- Shape into a tail and attach to the back, blending gently.
- Give the tail the flowy, curved shape you want for a natural finish.
12. Final Bake
- Bake the entire completed unicorn for 15 minutes at 110°C (230°F).
Let cool fully.
13. Finishing Touches
- After the unicorn has cooled, brush on a thin (optional) coat of clay-safe varnish for gloss and protection.
Tips for Success
- Use gentle pressure to avoid fingerprints—use silicone tools and wipes for smoothing.
- Always check the fit of the head (with the pin if you use it) before final baking.
- Your mane and tail colors can be customized—try adding a third color for even more magic.
- Position the Santa hat and head at a tilt for extra cuteness.
