Step-by-Step Building
Step 1: Assemble the Workbench Frame
Start by creating the main structure of your workbench using sturdy 2x4s. Cut eight 31″ pieces to form the legs and pair them with glue and screws for stability. Follow with four 30″ pieces and four 62″ ones, each drilled with pocket holes at the ends. Construct two identical sides by attaching the 30″ 2x4s between the legs (bottom horizontal, top vertical). Connect these sides using the 62″ 2x4s. For mobility, attach caste wheels at the base of the frame.
Step 2: Install Workbench Drawer Dividers
With your frame set, cut ¾″ plywood panels to fit snugly into the sides of the workbench, customize the height to your liking. Align these panels using pocket holes and screws, setting them recessed from the frame’s interior. Install a horizontal plywood support stretching across the center. Further organize the space by securing two more panels between the bottom 2×4 and the center support. Ensure these are centered to create uniform sections for your drawers.
Step 3: Build and Install Workbench Drawers
Before installing the drawer slides, add small plywood pieces to the interior sides of the frame sections to align the slides properly. Fix the drawer slides with an inset from the frame’s edge. Construct the drawer boxes from ¾″ plywood for the sides and ¼″ plywood for the bottoms using pocket holes, glue, and staples. Fit the drawer boxes in place, then attach the fronts, carefully maintaining even gaps around each drawer for a neat appearance.
