Level of Difficulty: Intermediate

Pattern Instructions:

Step 1: Make the Foundation Chain

  • Chain a length that fits from behind one ear, over the top of your head, to behind the other ear.
  • Chain in multiples of 7 + 1.
    Save
  • For example, the video uses a chain multiple of 64 (which measured around 13 inches). Adjust according to your head size and yarn/hook.

Step 2: Mark the Last Chain

  • Mark the last chain of your foundation to keep track.

Step 3: Begin First Flower (Row 1)

  • Chain 3 (counts as first double crochet – dc).
  • Into the marked chain:
    • Place 1 double crochet.
    • Chain 4.
      Save
    • Work 2 double crochets together (cluster) into the same marked chain:
      • Yarn over, insert hook, pull up a loop, yarn over, pull through 2 loops (do not finish) — repeat to get two half-done dc stitches, then yarn over and pull through all 3 loops on hook.
    • Chain 4.
    • Repeat 2 double crochets together again in the same chain.
  • This creates the first flower petal cluster.

Step 4: Create Flower Petals Across the Chain

  • Skip 6 chains from the last cluster, work the next flower in the 7th chain:
    • Place 2 double crochets together (cluster).
      Save
    • Chain 4.
    • Repeat 2 double crochets together three times with chain 4 spacing between each cluster for 3 petals.
  • Continue this across the entire chain length.

Step 5: Turn Work and Make Back Petals (Row 2)

  • Chain 4, turn your work so the petals are underneath.
  • In the chain space under each flower cluster, work:
    • 2 double crochets together
      Save
    • Chain 4
    • Repeat 2 double crochets together three times to complete 3 new petals on the hidden side.
  • This completes a full 6-petal flower.
  • Repeat this for each flower across the row.

Step 6: Continue Flower Rows

  • Keep repeating steps 4 and 5 to create flowers across your chain length.

Step 7: Connect the End

  • After your last flower cluster, chain 4.
  • Slip stitch to the top of the last petal to close the row.
    Save

Step 8: Create the Strap

  • Chain 1 and turn your work.
  • In the chain space made, place 4 single crochets (sc).
  • Chain 1, turn, and repeat 4 sc across each row on top of the previous row of single crochets to build a strap.
  • Make the strap length according to your head measurements.
    Save
  • For an elastic tie, stop when the strap is almost halfway around the head (approximately 3 inches wide, 13 rows as in the video).

Step 9: Attach the Elastic Band

  • Chain 1 and turn.
  • Position the elastic band behind your strap.
  • Work single crochets over the elastic, securing it in place. Approximately 4 sc stitches across the band.
  • Chain 1 and cut yarn, fasten off.

Step 10: Finish Strap on Other Side

  • Repeat the strap rows on the opposite side of the flowers with same number of rows.
  • Attach the elastic band on this side following the same method using single crochets.
    Save

Step 11: Weave in Ends

  • Use a yarn needle to weave in all loose ends neatly.

Uses:

  • Trendy spring accessory perfect for casual outings.
  • Makes a heartfelt handmade gift.
  • Keeps hair stylishly in place while adding a floral touch.

Tutor’s Suggestions:

  • Use cotton yarn for breathability and comfort during warmer months.
  • Adjustable strap with elastic makes it fit different head sizes perfectly.
  • The floral cluster petals give a delicate, eye-catching look without being too heavy.

Tip:

To make the headband softer and more comfortable, block it gently after finishing by dampening and shaping it flat, then letting it dry fully. This will help the flowers open nicely and the fabric sit well on your head.

Conclusion:

This crochet floral headband combines beauty with functionality—easy to wear, adjustable, and filled with lovely flower details. Whether for yourself or a loved one, it’s a wonderful project to celebrate springtime and friendship with handmade charm.
