- Chili powder
- Cumin
- Garlic powder
- Mexican oregano
- Salt and pepper
- Optional: Paprika, coriander, onion powder, and crushed red pepper
Tacos
- Ground beef
- Olive oil
- Tomato paste and water (or tomato sauce)
- Toppings: Shredded lettuce or cabbage, tomatoes, shredded cheddar cheese or Mexican blend, red onions, guacamole or avocado, olives, jalapeños, sour cream, salsa or bean tomato salsa
Instructions
Make Taco Seasoning:
Combine chili powder, cumin, garlic powder, Mexican oregano, salt, and pepper in a bowl. Adjust the quantities to taste or add optional spices like paprika, coriander, onion powder, and crushed red pepper for some heat.
Prepare Ground Beef:
- Heat olive oil in a skillet.
- Add ground beef to the skillet and brown it. Then drain any excess fat.
- Add the homemade taco seasoning along with tomato paste and a little water or tomato sauce to the beef.
- Bring the mixture to a simmer and cook for a few more minutes until the sauce thickens.
Assemble Tacos:
- Heat the tortillas in a microwave, oven, or on a skillet until soft and pliable.
- Spoon the ground beef mixture onto each tortilla.
- Top with your choice of toppings such as shredded lettuce or cabbage, diced tomatoes, cheese, onions, guacamole, olives, jalapeños, sour cream, and salsa.
Tips
- Be careful not to dry out the taco meat. Keep the heat medium-low and just until the sauce starts to thicken.
- If you want to add more depth to the taco meat, you can sauté onions with the ground beef or add onion powder.
- For a low carb option, use low-carb tortillas or serve the beef as a taco salad.
Enjoy your homemade ground beef tacos!
